1. FIXED ANNUAL PREMIUM
The wellbeing services county pays us, as our customer, a fixed insurance premium. We always announce the amount of the annual premium well in advance before the start of the insurance period. We pay compensation in advance to the Patient Insurance Centre for payment of compensation.
2. COMPENSATION FOR PATIENT INJURY
The Patient Insurance Centre pays compensation to the injured party. We are prepared to cover the patient compensations of the public medical care in a comprehensive manner: we ensure that we set aside sufficient funds for our technical provisions from the perspective of both current and future compensations.
3. ALLOCATE RESOURCES TO YOUR CORE COMPETENCE
From the perspective of the wellbeing services county, the handling of patient claims takes place here. We cover the patient injury risks in their entirety: our insurance does not include a deductible/excess or cut-off limits.

What is patient insurance?
Patient insurance is a statutory non-life insurance for operators engaged in the health and medical care industry in Finland. Patient insurance covers both patients and healthcare professionals by:
- ensuring that the insurance cover is comprehensive when a patient injury has occurred. In other words, by ensuring that the Patient Insurance Centre has sufficient funds for insurance compensation.
- covering the liability to compensate of the operators in the health and medical care industry when an injury has occurred.

What is the difference between the Finnish Mutual Patient Insurance Company and the Patient Insurance Centre?
The Finnish Mutual Patient Insurance Company covers the patient insurance risk of the public medical care. In other words, the company takes care of, on behalf of its own customers (i.e., the wellbeing services counties), the claims costs paid via the Patient Insurance Centre and the reservation of future indemnities.
The Finnish Mutual Patient Insurance Company is a member of the Patient Insurance Centre, as are other insurance companies that are engaged in patient insurance business in Finland.
The Patient Insurance Centre handles patient injury cases on behalf of all patient insurance companies and pays compensation to the injured party. Hospital districts and other health care providers should have compulsory patient insurance, with the help of which it is ensured that the Patient Insurance Centre has sufficient funds to pay compensations.
